I always knew Oxford cloth had origins across the pond, what I didn't know was why the "o" in Oxford is always capitalized. Turns out a Scottish mill developed the fabric in the 18th century and named it "Oxford cloth" after the famed university, allegedly for marketing purposes (who knew there was marketing in the 18th century?).
In California, preppy clothing definitely became a "thing" later than in the northeast of the US. We didn't discover it until the early to mid 1980s, when the traditional button down collar Oxford shirts were everywhere.
Pete and I are nostalgic blokes and what started with one white button down Oxford cloth shirt almost three years ago has blossomed into a five piece collection. All made in Italy with beautiful Italian Oxford cloth from a historic mill in Lombardy.
