A note from Tony Patella and Pete Searson (Tellason)
The Cone Mills White Oak plant in Greensboro, North Carolina has been closed for a couple of years now. This is a complicated and long story but in a sentence, we are grateful for their history, their partnership and their honest attempt to keep the band together. We would not be here today if it wasn't for CMWO and if we see some of their good people 10 years from now, it will be the first thing we tell them.
This leads us to why this week's "Item of the Week" is so important to us. Tony and I looked around our office and saw that almost all of our jeans (and jackets) are now made with our new Kaihara denim (that was made for us and designed to replicate exactly what we were doing at CMWO), with one exception- our 12.5 oz. blue lined selvedge Ankara Straight Leg Fit. To our delight, we have stock in all sizes. Now is the time to tip our hat and let this one loose to the public with a 20% discount as our "Item of the Week"!
Even if you are a diehard tapered leg dude, you should think about this fit. It is our version of what started the denim game 75+ years ago. Ladies, we are speaking to you as well. Maybe it is time to try a real "boyfriend" fit in the literal sense, instead of one that no boyfriend ever wore for even one day!
Like everything we make, our Ankara jean has its own story and it goes something like this- Eleven years ago now, a good chap named Michael Williams of "A Continuous Lean" wrote the first story / interview about us. Now, at that time, we did not know MIchael well but were stoked for his attention, even though the fit may not have been to his personal liking. You see, Michael was a bit on the heavy side at the time (not anymore) and found it difficult to get his boiler in there. So, a couple of conversations later and it was decided that Michael hit a nerve. Tony and Michael worked together through a Skype session or two or three and nailed down what was to be our second fit that specifically spoke to a customer who simply wanted more room, whether they were the husky sort or slim as a slice of bacon.
The name- The birth city of our favorite frontman of all time, John Graham Mellor (aka Joe Strummer).
Get a small piece of American denim history because when these are gone, they are gone, gone...
The backstory on the site explains that these were originally designed for a guy with burly legs, but that they’re good on skinny guys too. I’m a skinny guy, prefer a well-shrunken 31 waist in these. On me they look and feel like magically brand-new WWII-era work pants, “dungarees”, which is what I actually use them for. The build, of course, is finer than any real work pants today. Love ‘em.
If you are of a particular age these jeans will take you back to your first day of school. These are jeans you have to brake in and soften up. Tellason jeans also have deep pockets. There is plenty of room in this straight cut model. Thanks for a great product and great service.
Incredibly comfortabla and well fitting
This is my second pair of Ankara 12.5 oz. straight legs. The first one is about 5 years old and started to get holes on the crotch area about a year ago. I had it repaired and its as good as new. This cut fits me really well as it's roomy in the thigh area without being baggy anywhere else. As it aged, I like the way the coloration changed. I'd buy again provided this new pair lasts awhile.
This is my first purchase of Tellason clothing. As a guy with thighs and calves on the larger side, it's tough to find denim that fits well, is comfortable, and looks great. These fit the bill and then some. Made in the USA is also an added bonus.
Definitely not my last purchase! Thanks Tellason!
I've been looking for a quality pair of jeans for a long time that can accommodate my chunky and "athletic" build thighs and butt. The Ankara is a great fit, and has ample room even for me, but not baggy. Nice cut, great quality. I'm a fan and will definitely buy again. Only request now is to have a version of the Ankara with an even deeper shade of blue!
This fit is great for me as I have larger thighs and am not looking for a slim fit. I was looking for a lighter denim for the Florida weather and these are the best I've found. The larger back pockets are a little different for me, but I still need to give them time to break in.
I have been meaning to order Tellason jeans for some time now, and am glad that I finally did. The reason I have not done so before is because I live in the land of Raleigh Denim and I always thought their product was top. When I received my Tellason's I compared them to Raleigh Denim and I thought that the Tellason jeans were better all around and a better fit for me. Raleigh Denim is a great product but Tellason is better for me. I am looking forward to getting a jacket and shirt.
