A NOTE FROM PETE & TONY
1979 was the year my friend, Ron Millar, and I ditched our Boogie Boards forever and launched into a longstanding surfing life with our $10 garage sale single fins. The north end of Seal Beach was magical and the perfect place to figure this out. A year into it, we grew hungry to see what else was out there.
We were 15, so whatever else was out there needed to be close by. Our bikes were the way to get around, with one hand on the handlebar and the other doing our best to hold our board under our arms, feeling like we were pioneering some new frontier. Anderson Street was the place just south of Seal Beach by a mile or so. This wave was a smidge more challenging for us and that old water tower (now a house) was so iconic to have as a landmark for those who know that section of PCH.
A boat had wrecked on the beach that summer of 1980 right in our lineup. They cleaned it up but one day, I caught one to the inside section, jumped off my board and landed feet first on some wreckage. My day was done as the blood flowed out of a good sized gash on the bottom of my right foot. Ron helped me to my Schwinn 10 speed with the handlebars turned up and armed with those spiked, metal pedals. My bare right foot needed something softer than a spiked pedal so I wrapped my sister's McKenna's Creek (local restaurant where she worked) tee around the pedal and off we went. That tee shirt was never the same but it was a bit of a trophy for this young lad - a tee I continued to wear, rust stains from the pedal and blood stains from my foot.
Point being, life happens. Why not create your own marks and abrasions on a good pair of jeans. Or in today's case, a good denim jacket. We made our version of this jacket in our 14.75oz selvedge recently and we believe it will serve you well, whatever life sends your way.
