10+ years ago, I was hanging out at the one and only, Son of a Stag, in London. We all had stories floating around, and I remember going on about why the music coming out of the UK in the '70s and '80s mattered so much.
The Clash is forever at the forefront of our musical minds, so describing a new fit at the time called the Elgin was my task. I called it "Elgin", with a soft G sound like "Eljin". There was a handsome devil in the shop kind of shopping, kind of listening to what was going on. And when Rudy (owner) asked this fine chap, dressed in an impeccable camel hair trench coat, what he thought of the Clash, he simply said, "nice, but I prefer the Buzzcocks". His style matched his delivery and yes, the Buzzcocks is a fine choice, dear sir! He followed up by saying the next time I say "Elgin", it would be best to say it with a hard G. So from that day forward, I use the hard G.
Now, the Elgin fit is a bit slim through the leg without being too slim, and has a mid-rise that will help keep the draft out. It is cut a bit long for a nice cuff and slim enough to stack up nicely, if cuffing your jeans is not your thing.
