5 Ways To Cuff Your Raw Denim

When it comes to raw denim, the way you wear them can say a lot about you and your personality. Denim can be worn as-is for a more traditional look, or you may choose to take a more creative route by cuffing them up.

The different ways to cuff your jeans are admittedly a bit confusing, however, so we’re here to clear the confusion by sharing our favorite cuff styles, along with our tips on how to cuff your raw denim.

General rule: to avoid holes where the fold of the cuff meets your shoes, it is a good idea to vary the type of cuff you roll with to reduce the amount of friction.

The Single Cuff

1. Fold the hem of the denim about one to two inches up.
2. Tuck the hem into the folded portion

The Double Cuff

1. Fold the hem of the denim about two inches up.
2. Fold the denim one more time, concealing the hem of the denim.

The double cuff is exactly as it sounds. It gives a great shape to your denim
and prevents the denim from looking too baggy or loose.

The Skinny Cuff

1. Fold the hem of the denim about half an inch up.
2. Fold the denim twice more, so three short and thin flips total

The skinny cuff conceals the hemline and gives your jeans a clean
and more polished look. But don’t use the skinny cuff with
bulkier thick jeans or else it will bunch up.

The Messy/Pinroll Cuff

1. Pinch one to two inches of fabric at the side
2. Roll the leg of the denim up about three times (the messier the better!)

Check to make sure both the left and right cuffs
are approximately the same size, so the cuff won’t look too messy.

The Cyclist/Summer Cuff

1. Fold the hem of the denim about two to three inches up.
2. Fold the denim one more time, concealing the hem of the denim.
3. Slide it the rest of the way up your calf so it sits just under your knee.

The cyclist cuff works best with fitted denim because loose denim
will create a bulky and uncomfortable cuff. If you're a cyclist
trying to protect your pants from chain grease, do your chain-side leg.
