Todd Blubaugh has been a close friend of ours for 11 years.  He lives an extraordinary life and has a clear vision about the gear that helps him during his travels.  We let Todd create this new jean from top to bottom.  Our sanforized 16.5 oz.proprietary Kaihara denim is our toughest so it was an automatic choice for us to use for The Blubaugh jean.  It has a mid-rise slim straight fit. Cut and sewn in San Francisco, Calif. USA.  Check out Todd's book.

A note from Tony & Pete

Occasionally, you meet the following types of people:

Candlestick Maker
Stunt Flyer

Our friend Todd Blubaugh checks a few of these boxes. The friendship began with Tony flying up to Seattle (year two for us) to do a promotion at Blackbird (RIP). They were one of the first five shops we sold to when we started. Tony ran a contest and was going to give a free pair for the person who brought in their most hammered pair of Tellason jeans. Todd arrived early and the contest was over. His pair was still one of the best old jeans we have seen. From there, our friendship grew.

Christmas 2014, Todd was passing through on his bike. We were neck deep in turkey etc... and an hour later, we hear the thump of his motor working its way up the hill. Once inside, Todd took over one of the four burners at the stove to melt down some bees wax to re-wax his jacket for the next day's wet ride north. Now, remember this is Christmas dinner here and burners are a hot commodity. My wife somehow reworked the timing of the whole dinner since that bees wax took about an hour to melt down. My youngest was fascinated with Todd's old world efforts and dinner came out just fine...

Back to jeans- we were ready for a new fit so we passed Todd the baton and gave him 100% freedom to create a jean based on exactly what his life on a bike is all about. The mid-rise keeps the draft down the bunz in check and the slightly slimmer straight leg is neither tight nor loose which allows for a little mobility without the leg panels flapping in the wind at +60 m.p.h. The leg opening derived from what Todd believes to be the perfect circumference around his Red Wing Engineer boot.

This is only available in our 16.5 oz orange line selvedge to keep things on the heavy side for Todd's rigorous life.

    Blubaugh Best

These are amazing jeans. They're high quality and well made, and I look forward to the aging process unfolding as they arrive stiff and sturdy. Compared to major retailers, I believe they are more straight-leg than slim. I'm 60, 5'7", 170 lbs, 32" waist, and have a modest athletic build. The size 32" was perfect for me, and they have already stretched after five wearings. I plan to wear them frequently for a few months before I wash them and have them hemmed. These will not be my last Tellasons but will last a lifetime.

    Great Fit

Posted by German on 9th May 2024

I’m 6ft tall, 165lbs and ordered the size 34 Blubaugh in the 16.5oz denim. I originally ordered the 33 and they were too small though the exchange was easy. Note: measure your favorite fitting jeans across the back of the waist band and multiply by 2 as recommended by Tellason to get your Tellason size). The size 34 fit perfectly and they are not very slim fit actually, which is nice. They come with a really long inseam by default (I imagine 35) so you either cuff them or hem them, which Tellason offers). The quality is unparalleled, these are the best jeans I have ever bought. Thanks y’all!

I was nervous about the fit ordering a slim straight, as I have had issues in the past with denim fitting too tight in the thighs. Fortunately for me I couldn’t resist the marketing pitch of looking like a motorcycle vagrant, candlestick maker / swindler. The cut is what I have longed for since my first pair of selvedge. These have a great slim silhouette without an overly tight crotch and thighs. The slightly wider leg opening is perfect for boots, and in my opinion just looks more masculine and better than a tapered leg even in sneakers. I am an athletic/slim 6’5 with long legs and wider thighs and a 36 was a money fit. I have owned a handful of brands of selvedge. My coverall jacket and these pants have put tellason comfortably at the top of my list of denim brands.

    Todd was right.

Fits so nice I had to buy them twice. Classic look with a wider leg is perfect when paired with some Roper Boots. Cuff them up a few times and drape them over the ankles of some Redwing 1907 Moc Toes for a solid heritage look. Works just as well with Pacific Northwest Style Cap-toe Boots when cuffed over the heel. My second pair I ordered a size larger to wear a little baggy and cuffed for when i need to throw on some flip-flops and head to the beach. Most importantly though, the rise on these are high enough to keep the cheeks out of sight when i squat or bend down. The quality of the denim and stitching are easily on par if not exceeds a few of the more pricey Japanese Denim brands. These replaced my Ironheart 666s as my favorite cut. Well done Todd. P.S. Tony is a champ for handwriting all those thank you cards.

These are great, classic fit but still sleek. I’m a skinny guy and these don’t look too loose/shapeless on my legs. And maybe the only thing these guys do better than jeans is customer service, super helpful in getting me the right size.

How jeans should be. Button fly . Tough. No stretch. Like pants used to be but better. Been looking for good jeans for a long time since levis quality went so bad.

Blubaugh 16.5 oz Heavy denim boot cut

Posted by Mike on 12th Dec 2023

I’ve been looking for a Selvedge denim that will allow me to wear my cowboy boots and or engineering riding boots. So, as soon as I saw these pair on their IG page,I purchased the 15 oz in sz 32, it was pefect fit for my waist but too narrow on the thigh area, so I requested for a larger size but the 33’s were all out, so Tony asked if I would like to get the 16.5 oz. I was hesitant getting heavy weight demin since I live in Texas. As soon as I got them they were STIFF, I usually stick with 12-13.5 oz. So I started to just wear it everyday. After a week it’s getting a lot easier to move around in and throw a leg over my bike. I can already tell that these will probably be one of my favorite go to denim in my collection. I love the color and now have a pair I can ride in as well as have my winter weight denim. Will be picking up a both the 15 oz and the other one in black.
